Introduction

The Australian dental community recognises that oral health is an important part of quality of life. There is a shared concern of dentists beyond the confines of national boundaries. This embraces the growing health care needs of Indigenous Australians, those of the Asia Pacific and Oceania regions and the world generally. One of the factors in improving the quality of health care will be to link dental professionals to events, organisations, professional activities and volunteer opportunities around the world. It is with this aim that Federal Council has established a Special Purpose Committee on Dental Volunteers to assist our members who provide volunteer dental outreach programmes. We hope that you will share Federal Council’s commitment to dental volunteering and respond with interest.
