About the ADA

Corporate Profile

The International College of Dentists was formed in the UnitedStates in 1928 to recognise ability, promote ethical practice and tohonour meritorious service in Dentistry. An Australian Section wasauthorised in 1964, and in 1977 this Section was renamed theAustralasian Section to include not only New Zealand, but all countriesin the South Pacific area. Admittance to Fellowship is by invitation,and is extended to dentists who have been deemed to fulfil theobjectives of the College. These include: meritorious service in one ormore branches of dentistry and the general community, the desire andability to meet, share knowledge and enjoy the company of dentists inother countries, and the maintenance of the highest ethical standardswhen dealing with patients, staff and colleagues. The prospectivecandidate is assessed, not only on past service, but also on theestimation of future service as a Fellow of the International College.

Dental Health Week is a community awareness program coordinated and funded by the ADA. In 2008 the ADA is leading a campaign to target 30-50 year olds and has developed a range of Fact Sheets on oral health care. August 4 - 10 is Dental Health Week
