the establishment of a task force on dental advertising, and the review
of the scope of practice registration standard.

DBA Communiqué - 14 December 2012
The DBA has released a communique following the thirty seventh meeting of the Board. This communique includes the review of accreditation functions, information on the Expert Reference Groups, and an overview of dental practitioner registrations.
Also included in the communique is a notice of extension to the registration renewal deadline. The renewal of registration must be completed by close of business 31 January 2013.

DBA Communiqué - 16 November 2012
The DBA has released a communique following the thirty sixth meeting of the Board. This communique highlights the establishment of an Oral Surgery Panel, the continued work in establishing a national return to work/practice process for dental practitioners, an update on the work of the Board in relation to scope of practice registration standards, the review of accreditation functions, the review of standards, guidelines and codes, a fact sheet published on 'Obligations of dental practitioners regarding use of title', and AHPRA and the National Boards 2012 annual report.
Also included in the Communique is a reminder that renewal of registration must be completed by this Friday 30th November.

The DBA has released a communique following the thirty third meeting of the Board. This communique includes the release of a report by Health Workforce Australia (HWA), the review of the scope of practice registration standard, agreement of the establishment of an Expert Reference Group, further discussion on establishing a national return to work/practice process for dental practitioners, the development of a further fact sheet to clarify the use of Botulinum Toxin, and the development and release of a fact sheet for the use of titles, for dental practitioners.

The DBA has released a consultation paper seeking feedback for the draft Social media policy that has been developed to provide clarity on the expected standards of social media use for registered health practitioners regulated under the National Law.

DBA releases guidelines on Conscious Sedation Area of Practice Endorsement - 04 June 2012
The Dental Board of Australia (the Board) has released its Guidelines – Conscious Sedation Area of Practice Endorsement. The Guidelines aim to provide further detail for dental practitioners in relation to the Registration Standard for Endorsement in relation to conscious sedation.
The Board has also released a discussion paper on Anxiolysis. The ADA will be providing comments on the discussion paper on behalf of members.

The Dental Board of Australia has released a communique following the thirtieth meeting of the Board. This Communique includes advice on the registration of Oral Health Therapists and provides an update on the Scope of Practice Review undertaken by Health Workforce Australia. DBA releases guidelines on when to be registered - 26 April 2012
Following a period of consultation regarding the definition of practice, the Dental Board of Australia has determined that it will retain the current definition and has issued advice to practitioners about when they need to be registered. This advice is particularly relevant to those who are not working in clinical areas of practice.

The Dental Board have discussed Registration Standards and Guidelines for consultation, Revised Supervision Guidelines, social media policy and the Australian National Guidelines for the Management of Health Care Workers known to be infected with Blood-Borne Viruses.

DBA release quarterly statistics on registered Dental Practitioners - 29 March 2012
The Dental Board of Australia has released the first of their quarterly updates on registration data.
The data published reflect the March 2012 quarter. Registration data will in future be published quarterly, directly after the end of each quarter.
The data, includes information about types of registration held, principal place of practice, endorsements, registrant age and gender, is published on the Boards website but is attached here for information

The Dental Board of Australia today urged dental practitioners whose registration expires on 30 November to renew online and on time.
Botox and use by Dentists - 27 October 2011
A number of members have been directing enquiries to the ADA as to what they are permitted to do in relation to the use of Botulinum Toxin (Botox). Members are advised to be aware of and comply with the Dental Board of Australia’s (DBA) Interim Policy on the use of Botox.
The ADA stresses Members should review the DBA’s Interim Policy on the use of Botox which can be viewed HERE. The Interim Policy states that whilst the use of Botox and Dermal Filters is under review to remove variations between States and Territories to conform with the formation of a national body, the DBA only “supports the use of botox by registered dentists with education, training and competence for the treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Disorder/Dysfunction (TJD).

Accreditation Standards: Education Programs
for Dental Prosthetists - 19 October 2011
The Dental Board of Australia (DBA) requested the Australian Dental Council (ADC) develop an accreditation standard and process for Dental Prosthetist programs of study. On 14 October 2011 the DBA approved the Accreditation Standard: Education Programs for Dental Prosthetists.

Fast Track Application for Practitioners who did not Renew - 03 February 2011
Individual practitioners are responsible for renewing their registration on time each year with the vast majority of health practitioners completing this on time.
Practitioners who were due to renew their registration are able to practise in a one month “late period‟ after their registration expiry date. However, they must renew within one month of their expiry date or they will lose their registration and the right to practise their profession.

AHPRA Registration Delays - 21 January 2011
The ADA has received a number of requests for information regarding online registration with AHPRA and registration delays.
AHPRA have advised that due to the number of renewal applications being processed at present, it may take some time to finalise the renewal of registration for dental practitioners.
AHPRA have advised that when a renewal has been finalised, written confirmation will be provided.
The search page confirms that under the National Law, registrants are able to continue to practise whilst their renewal application is being processed. Therefore registrants may be correctly displayed as ‘Registered’, but have a registration expiry date that has passed.
The Dental Board of Australia has advised that for those practitioners wanting to check their Registration status should visit:

This site is for use by registrants with a renewal due on 31 December 2010.

DBA Public register - 19 July 2010
The ADA has sought urgent information from the Dental Board of Australia (DBA) as to whether the information registered on the local dental board’s register will automatically be included onto the Dental Board of Australia’s Public Register, or whether the DBA will recognise the earlier agreement reached between the practitioner and local board to refrain from publication of certain information on the Public Register.

National registration and Accreditation System (DBA) - 25 June 2010
In March 2008 the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) decided to establish a single national registration and accreditation system for 10 health professions, for introduction on 1 July 2010. The Dental Board of Australia has now been established under the Health Practitioner Regulation (Administrative Arrangements) National Law Act 2008.
