June 2004 - Volume 49 Number 2EVIDENCE-BASED DENTISTRYThe Cochrane Oral Health Group Clinicians are continually overwhelmed with an unmanageable amount of healthcare information from a variety of sources. Empirical research indicates that ‘Cochrane’ systematic reviews are, on average, of higher quality and updated more often than systematic reviews and meta-analyses published in paper journals.
| EJ Tavender | Cochrane Review - Ceramic inlays for restoring posterior teeth In recent decades ceramic inlays have been used with the increasing requirements from patients for tooth-coloured restorations in posterior teeth. Ceramic inlays can offer an excellent appearance. However, their long-term prognosis is uncertain, as only a few studies have reported the long-term clinical performance of these restorations.

DENTAL HISTORYSCIENTIFIC ARTICLESCASE REPORTSDATA WATCHChanges in South Australian children's caries experience: Is caries re-surfacing? Dental caries rates of Australian children are among the lowest in the world. Since the Second World War, when relatively frequent surveys within Australia commenced, the average number of teeth decayed, missing due to caries or filled, has fallen dramatically. However, although caries experience has greatly diminished it has not disappeared. Despite the success of caries prevention strategies, there remain a minority of children with a majority of disease experience. In addition, the most recent Australian data show that the steady falls in children's caries experience have come to an end and there are signs that decay rates are starting to increase.
