Ms Cheryl Baldwin

After 20 years working as a dental technician, Cheryl now works in dental education at TAFE SA where she teaches students in the Certificate III in Dental Laboratory Assisting, the Diploma of Dental Technology and the Advanced Diploma of Oral Hygiene. Cheryl is also involved with the Trans-National Study Tour Program at TAFE SA and teaches visiting Dental Technology students from Shanghai. Cheryl also has a TESOL qualification and teaches English to speakers of other languages.

Dental model construction. An approach to improving your dental models.

Producing an acceptable model every time can be tricky and there are many external factors that can affect the quality of the model. Dental models are the foundation on which dental appliances will be built so getting it right is vitally important.

Learning Outcomes:
 In this session we will discuss the following points:

  • Selecting and preparing the correct materials
  • Getting the right consistency
  • Pouring the impression, the techniques to use
  • Allowing the stone to set, let’s be patient.
  • Removal of the impression.
  • Trimming and finishing the model
  • What went wrong?
  • Moving forward 3D printing
