Prof. Ivan B Darby announced as new editor of Australian Dental Journal

Professor Ivan B Darby has been announced as the new editor of the Australian Dental Journal (the Journal). 

He will take over from longtime incumbent, Professor Mark Bartold, who has played a key role in elevating the global standing of the Journal which is now listed as one of the top 50 dental publications in the world. 

Currently Head of Periodontics at the Melbourne Dental School (the School), University of Melbourne, Professor Darby brings a wealth of experience to the role including as a member since 2009 of the editorial advisory board of the Journal and as an editor of the ASP journal, Periodontology from 2006 to 2016 and as current editor of the Australian Journal of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry

A Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, the International College of Dentists and the Academy of Dentistry International, Prof. Darby is the Director of Postgraduate Studies at the School and member of the senior management committee. 

Still engaged in active practice as a periodontist in Melbourne, Prof. Darby is a past President of the Australian Society of Periodontology, the International Association of Dental Research Australian & New Zealand Division and International Association of Dental Research Periodontal Research Group as well as being a full member of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons since 2006. In addition, he is currently the vice-president of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists.  

Professor Darby will take up his appointment in December 2021.
