The new indexed cap rate applies from 1 January 2026 until 31 December 2026 for any new work commenced in that timeframe.

The new indexed cap rate for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) of $1,158 comes into effect on 1 January 2026 and is applicable until 31 December 2026.
The increased $1,158 cap applies only if a child’s CDBS treatment period begins in 2026. The $1,132 cap applies to those starting in 2025, even if their treatment continues into 2026.
The ADA understands that minor changes related to individual rebates will be published in Schedule 1 of the amended Dental Benefits Rules 2014.
The CDBS provides individual benefits for a range of services including exams, x-rays, fillings and root canals (it excludes orthodontic or cosmetic dental procedures), for children aged 0-17 years whose parents receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or a relevant Australian Government payment.
Provided dentists are registered with the Dental Board of Australia and hold a Medicare provider number, they can provide services under the CDBS. Before any treatment commences, however, the eligibility of the child for the CDBS must be confirmed and the remaining amount of funds in their allocation must also be checked.
