Prof Gilles Lavigne

Gilles Lavigne

Professor Gilles Lavigne loves to get away from it all sailing on the open waters of Quebec, a world away from his work which has included being the holder of a Canada Research Chair in Pain, Sleep & Trauma and a past Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at the Université de Montréal, Canada (2008-2016). A member of the Order of Canada, Gilles completed his postdoctoral training on the neurobiology of pain in the USA, later receiving a Doctor honoris causa from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Zurich, Switzerland.  President of the Canadian Sleep Society and President of the Canadian Pain Society, Gilles is internationally recognised for his experimental and clinical research projects on sleep bruxism and the interactions between sleep, pain, and breathing disorders, remaining active in clinical teaching and services in both these areas. He has published over 200 papers and is an editor of books on orofacial pain and sleep medicine for dentists.
