ADA shines with two major awards at the FDI World Dental Congress 2025

- FDI World Dental Federation
The ADA’s innovative campaigns to promote environmental sustainability in dentistry and good oral healthcare received global recognition at the event held recently in Shanghai.

The FDI World Dental Federation (FDI), the global umbrella organisation of national dental associations of which the ADA is a long-term member, recently held its annual World Dental Congress in Shanghai, China (9-12 September).
At this major global dental event, which also included sessions of the policy and agenda-setting World Dental Parliament where ADA President Dr Chris Sanzaro, Vice-President Dr Angie Nilsson and CEO Dr Kate More were in attendance, saw the ADA given two major awards which recognise its innovative campaigns in two key areas.
The Smile Award was handed out by FDI President Dr Greg Chadwick to the Australian and Philippine Dental Associations for "their innovative, sustainable approaches to preventive oral care".
Awarded to national dental associations who "break barriers to care through outreach, education, and community-driven projects", the Smile Grant was given to the ADA Dental Health Foundation for their ongoing work to make dental care accessible to people for whom it might usually be out of reach.
It hailed their innovative programs including Rebuilding Smiles, Dental Rescue Days and Adopt a Patient for the way in which they deliver much-needed care to underserved groups such as the homeless, survivors of domestic violence and those facing financial hardship.
In the words of FDI, "It’s a model that not only expands access but also strengthens the dental workforce, paving the way for a healthier, more inclusive future."
The ADA also received the FDI Sustainability Award which promotes the importance of environmentally responsible dentistry on a global scale.
In addition to the ADA’s award for its sustainable dentistry resources, the Dental Society - Emirates Medical Association and Indian Dental Association were recognised for "their leadership and commitment to advancing sustainability in dentistry".
It’s exciting to see key initiatives by the ADA for its members and the general public recognised on a global scale, which speaks to how important these types of campaigns are.
